NewDEALers Innovating to Support Entrepreneurs
In an op-ed for the Albany Times Union, NewDEAL Leader New York Assemblymember David Buchwald urges Governor Cuomo to sign his innovation voucher legislation -- a proposal inspired in part by his involvement with NewDEAL. Buchwald describes the opportunity that innovation vouchers give small businesses to expand R&D through partnerships with higher education institutions, and highlights how NewDEAL Leaders are setting the agenda for communities to spur innovation and entrepreneurship. Through these proposals and others, Buchwald points out how NewDEALers are fighting to address inequalities that are hampering small business -- inequalities he says have not received enough focus in Congress' push for tax reform.

NewDEAL Leader Palm Beach County, FL State Attorney Dave Aronberg testified before Congress this week on the policies and methods he has been using to successfully crack down on opioid abuse and fraud. Aronberg focused on the fraudulent practices that sober homes use to keep addicts in a cycle of abuse, as well as illegal patient brokering, and made recommendations for how the government can better protect patients.
