State of the Union
This week, the NewDEAL applauded President Obama for reminding us in his final State of the Union that we must respond to a rapidly changing world and new economic realities with optimism, not fear. We look forward to continuing to work with NewDEAL Leaders around the country to address important challenges the President posed: how to expand opportunity for all, grow the economy, foster innovation, and promote ideas over ideology.
Check out the statements on the President's speech from NewDEAL Honorary Co-Chairs Governor Jack Markell and Senator Mark Warner, as well as New Democrat Coalition Chair U.S. Rep Ron Kind (D-WI).

Learn about NewDEAL Leader Mayor Nan Whaley's efforts to prioritize constituent satisfaction with services, and to improve leeway in emergency funds for city officials in her 2016 budget. Mayor Whaley's plans call for greater budgeting of contingency funds to allow for financial flexibility for unplanned expenses, as well as customer service training of city workers and a new permit application process to help speed processes along.
